Artificial Colour
This photography project explores artificial colour as the main visual element in portraiture. Using a controlled lighting setup with coloured gels, I created environments where colour defines the mood and composition. Red was used as the dominant tone to build an immersive atmosphere, while in one portrait a contrasting blue light was introduced to highlight facial features and create visual tension.

About the work
This project required careful technical control to maintain colour saturation while preserving detail in the subject’s face. Managing light spill, exposure balance, and gel placement was essential to ensure the colours remained bold without overpowering the portraits.
Through this project, I explored how colour and light alone can shape mood, identity, and visual storytelling.
